Dragon Naturally Speaking is voice recognition software. It allows users to talk into a microphone and have their words entered into the computer. It can also control all mouse and keyboard functions through voice commands to provide hands-free access to those individuals with significant physical limitations.

Read & Write Gold is a customizable, easy to use toolbar that seamlessly integrates with familiar applications including Microsoft Word, Internet Explorer, and Adobe Reader, allowing students to access the support tools they need from within mainstream software programs. It highlights and reads text aloud using natural sounding voices and also includes a comprehensive set of support tools for reading, writing, studying, research, and test taking.

Use Read & Write Gold at home! Any individual with a Mason ID may purchase a license through the at home program from Patriot Computers for $30.00. Versions for both PC and Mac are available. (R&W Gold 10 for PCs and R&W 5 Gold for Macs.) If you have any difficulties loading the software, please contact us at ATI.

JAWS for Windows is a screen reading software for computers running any Windows operating system. It reads the information that is on the screen to benefit those users who cannot see the screen. All information including menu bars, text in word processors, email, web pages, and information found in dialog boxes is provided through speech output.
JAWS Commands for Access (MS Word)
ZoomText Magnifier/Reader is a software program that enlarges the screen image up to 32X its typical size. It also provides screen reading capabilities.

Windows 7 includes accessibility options and programs that make it easier to see, hear, and use your computer including ways to personalize your PC. Windows 7 includes significant accessibility improvements. Magnifier now includes a lens mode and full-screen mode. On-Screen Keyboard can be resized to make it easier to see and includes text prediction. Windows 7 also gives you more ways to interact with your PC by taking advantage of new strides in speech recognition and touch technology.

Apple includes assistive technology in its products as standard features — at no additional cost. For example, iPhone, iPad, iPod, and Mac OS X include screen magnification and VoiceOver, a screen-access technology, for the blind and visually impaired. To assist those with cognitive and learning disabilities, every Mac includes an alternative, simplified user interface that rewards exploration and learning. And, for those who find it difficult to use a mouse, every Mac computer includes Mouse Keys, Slow Keys, and Sticky Keys, which adapt the computer to the user’s needs and capabilities.
